In the district there are over 300 economic agents, around 3,000 individual entrepreneurs. The number of people engaged in the economy — over 57,000 people.
The industry of Gomel’s Central District is represented by 24 enterprises, including 18 ones accountable to national administration bodies, 2 — local Councils of Deputies, 4 have no agency accountability but represent various industries: machine-tool making, instrument making, automobile transport, light and food industries.
Most companies preserved and extended the recognisability of their products. Gomel Machine-Tool Plant named after S.M. Kirov can be definitely named the flagship of the national machine-tool industry. The company builds up production of heavy-duty machine-tools, working hard to promote their sales abroad. Machine-tools are sold in Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Germany, the USA, Israel, Turkey, Vietnam, and other countries.
The history of Belarus’ largest confectionery maker joint venture OAO Spartak dates back to 1924. The company offers around 340 titles of confectionery made of high-quality raw material. Spartak’s products account for over 50% of the district’s commodity output.
Light industry products of open joint-stock companies 8 Marta and Komintern are well-known abroad. Special footwear made by company Trud and printing products from Polespechat enjoy demand. Lyubna company keeps the best traditions of Belarusian crafts manufacturing souvenirs made of straw, vine, and cloth.
Gomelkhleboprodukt, Gomel Measuring Instruments Plant, and other industrial enterprises contribute a lot to the district’s development.
